Slots Used 2 Of 4 Ram
I recently bought a Dell Vostro 14 5459(core i5 6200U, 4 GB, GF 930M). At first, I intended to install another 4GB RAM stick, but when I took my laptop apart, I saw only a single RAM slot, so I couldnt upgrade the machine. However, I opened up Task Manager this morning and saw that I have up to 4. In addition, the number of RAM slots on a motherboard is independent of the number of memory channels. A channel needs only one stick to be used, and any more than that doesn’t necessarily stop things from working. Most modern motherboards have two to four memory channels. Very few (mostly dirt cheap models) motherboards have only one RAM slot available. Most of them have 2, 4 or 8 — an even number. But what if you tried installing 3 sticks into a 4-slot motherboard? Most mobos work like this: 2 ram sticks go in slot 2 - 4 if you have 4 sticks put em all in. My msi manual told me to put it in slot 2 - 4 too akd iv got 8gbs in 2 sticks. Plus its a commen way of indtalling ram since it uses dual channel. In task manager for win8, i see that memory says slots used 1 out of 4, which is currently 4 GB, but when i opened my laptop i can only see two. It also says slot 1: empty; slot 2: empty; slot 3: 4.0 GB,1333 MHz; slot 4: empty.
